Default All Users to “Follow” Community Channels for Improved Engagement
Gabby Button
The current default setting for new members in our online community is unfollowed for all feeds and channels. This significantly undermines the purpose of the community which is to foster connection, engagement, and learning ... because users do not see updates unless they manually opt in.
The current system - When users join the community, they are not automatically following any feeds or channels. This creates confusion and low visibility for discussions, updates, and important content. We are forced to create additional onboarding materials to show users how to follow channels, which adds friction and delays engagement.
Request - Please change the default behavior so that:
- All existing channels are automatically followed by new users upon joining the community.
- Any newly created channel is automatically followed by all users (with the ability to unfollow if they choose).
- Or if possible make this a configurable setting for each community. It defaul to FOLLOW or UNFOLLOW.
This change will:
- Immediately increase visibility of community activity.
- Remove unnecessary onboarding steps.
- Significantly improve engagement, participation, and learning outcomes.

Catherine Mathieu thanks. They are saying it is technically not possible but that seems a bit odd. Anyhow, I guess we can only watch this space.
